Watch the Wembley triumph again
Spoiler alert: Reading win. That shouldn’t be too big a surprise though… we’ve only been talking about it for the past 32 years!
Never before had the Royals been to Wembley, and when they descended on the national stadium on 27th March 1988 – with tens of thousands of fans in tow, they upset the odds again, just like they had throughout the whole cup run to the final.
No-one saw it coming, and it looked unlikelier when Mick Harford got the Hatters ahead. But Michael Gilkes began the comeback, before Stuart Beavon put Reading ahead - and Mick Tait and Neil Smillie wrapped up that brilliant win in the second half.
That cup triumph holds a special place in the club’s history – and rightly so. Those that were there witnessed only win to date at Wembley… for our young supporters, it’s a fantastic history lesson of bygone glories.
Normally, we would be building towards a trip to Kenilworth Road and a modern-day meeting with the Hatters... but this is a worthy substitute.
So whether you want to see it for the umpteenth time or the first time, we’re broadcasting the whole 90 minutes in full on Friday; it’ll begin at 3pm on our YouTube channel.
