Young defenders to earn further first team experience in League of Ireland action until the summer
Reading Football Club can announce that young defenders Andre Burley and Akin Odimayo have joined League of Ireland outfit Waterford FC on loan until June.
Both Academy graduates came through the ranks with Reading to make their first team debuts for the Royals earlier this season; Odimayo started in our 4-2 Carabao Cup win at Plymouth Argyle back in August, while Burley was first named in Mark Bowen’s back four for our FA Cup Third Round encounter with Blackpool last month.
This will be the second loan spell away from RG2 for Odimayo, who enjoyed a short loan stint at Hungerford Town earlier this season, while Burley will be hoping to impress again after keeping a clean sheet alongside Tom McIntyre in our cup win at Bloomfield Road.
Both 20 years of age and full of promise for the future, Burley and Odimayo now join fellow Academy loanee Adam Liddle in the Premier Division following the young striker’s loan switch to Derry City earlier this week.
Andre and Akin could make their Blues debuts when Waterford kick start their Premier Division campaign with a Valentine’s Day trip to St Patrick’s this evening before a home opener against Bohemians the following week.
We would like to wish both players the very best of luck during their loan spells in Ireland.
