Forward completes season-long switch to Poland

Reading forward Deniss Rakels has today finalised a deal to join up with Polish Ekstraklasa outfit Lech Poznań on a season-long loan.

The Latvian striker first linked up with the Royals 18 months ago, joining on a transfer from KS Cracovia, and scored three goals in 6(+8) appearances in his maiden Reading campaign.

Rakels’ year in 2016/17 was limited to just two starts and one sub appearance in the blue and white hoops, as an ankle injury picked up against MK Dons in the EFL Cup truncated his season.

His competitive debut for loan club Lech could potentially come as early as this Thursday, when Lech kick off their season with a Europa League qualifier against Macedonian outfit Pelister, before their league campaign begins next month against newly-promoted Sandecja Nowy Sącz.

All at Reading FC would like to wish Deniss well for his time in Poznań.
